Auckland FC vs Team Wellington at the Final

Team Wellington will meet Auckland City in the ASB Premiership final after beating Hawke's Bay United 3-1.

First half goals to Luis Corrales and Tom Jackson saw them up 2-1 for much of the game, before Magno Viera iced the semifinal in Napier on Sunday with a composed finish.

The visitors started the game much the better side.

Alex Feneridis had the ball in the back of the net for in the opening minute, but was adjudged to have been offside before Leonardo Villa floated in his freekick.

It only took another three minutes until they had the lead. Hawke's Bay defender Sean Liddicoat was unable to clear a 60-yard long ball, which Corrales surged onto and into the box, beating Josh Hill at his near post.

Hawke's Bay were struggling to get any meaningful possession, but they were back in the game in the 11th minute against the run of play.

Some slack defending from Team Wellington allowed a ball to sneak through their right side, which Kohei Matsumoto linked up with and slammed home past Scott Basalaj.

Tom Biss should have put Hawke's Bay ahead, but fired his one-on-one shot directly at Basalaj, before the Team Wellington keeper produced a stunning save to deny Sam Mason-Smith in what was a frenetic opening 15 minutes.

The game, and its combatants, settled down at that point.

That was until the 38th minute when Hawke's Bay defender Martin Canales bundled over Andy Bevin in the box with an unnecessary challenge.

Jackson slotted the penalty to give Team Wellington the lead going into halftime.

It was a one-way traffic to open the second half as Team Wellington's defence, led by good performances from Fergus Neil and Bill Robertson, held out waves of Hawke's Bay attacks.

Paul Ifill was introduced into the game with half an hour to go to try and spark something for Hawke's Bay. He had a golden chance 10 minutes into his cameo to equalise, jinking past defenders in the box before firing his shot high over the goal.

Viera put the game to bed 11 minutes from time. The Brazilian had just missed a golden chance to put his side two goals up when he latched onto a long ball and chipped Hill, who was left stranded in no man's land after not committing to his advance out of goal.

The win sees Team Wellington through to Thursday's final, where they will meet Auckland City, who beat Canterbury 2-1 in Sunday's other semifinal.
