Former WYNRS Academy player - Kip Colvey send very encouraged message to all current WYNRS players.

"Former Wyers Academy player has signed his first professional contract with the San Jose Earthquakes in the USA MLS. After playing four years at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California Kip was drafted in the third round of the MLS Super Draft by San Jose earning a trial and eventually a professional contract. Kip Colvey II was called into the All Whites for the OFC Nation Cup and has played 3 90 minute games at left back. Because of the Wyers Academy Kip is very comfortable with the ball and his one touches adds to any team that plays possession type of football. Yours Truly, Kip Colvey I'

The 21-year-old, who can play at left-back or right-back, featured heavily for the Quakes during the pre-season campaign, even assisting on a goal during their win over USL side Sacramento Republic FC, and justified his place as the 28th and final member of the squad for the 2016 season.

He was also part of the New Zealand under-23 team that was disqualified from Olympic Games qualification after fielding an ineligible player during the qualifying tournament in Papua New Guinea last year and has previously represented New Zealand at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

While many New Zealanders have gone through the MLS system, most notably former All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen, who played for DC United and later coached Toronto FC, Colvey will be just one of two Kiwis involved in the 2016 edition of the competition with goalkeeper Jake Gleeson at the Portland Timbers.

Kip got his first start of the season on March 13th, 2016 against the Portalnd Timbers and played the full 90 minutes.[6] He signed with the club on March 4, 2016 and earned honors as SBI MLS Rookie of the Week on March 14, 2016.

On May 12, 2016 he was named in the 23-man squad for the All Whites for the 2016 OFC Nations Cup. [9] Colvey made his debut for the senior New Zealand national football team in a 2016 OFC Nations Cup 3-1 win over Fiji.
