Bidvest Wits teenager Liam Jordan has made a high-profile move to Europe, joining Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.

He spent his childhood at WYNRS for 8 years.

Reports from Portugal earlier today revealed the youngster was in the country for a medical, with his agent Glyn Binkin confirming the deal on Monday night.

“Congratulations to TPC client Liam Jordan on signing for Sporting Lisbon,” Binkin tweeted.

The 18-year-old South African U20 international, who recently found the back of the net to help Amajita qualify for the African Youth Championships, made his debut for the Wits first team at the age of 16, but has mostly been utilised in the club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team over the past two seasons, scoring four goals last season as the Clever Boys finished fourth.

Wits had negotiated the loan transfer of Jordan to Sporting for a season, with an option to buy.

Club CEO Jose Ferreira was unable to attend today's signing in Lisbon due to club commitments in SA, but will be flying to Lisbon in the first week of September to look at ways to strengthen ties between the two clubs.

Liam’s new club Sporting finished as runners-up to Benfica in Portugual’s top-flight last season, their sixth runners-up finish in the past 11 years, having last won the Premeira Liga in 2002.
